Our editorial promise

How Committed Marriage is developed, reviewed, and corrected.

Useful relationship education needs more than a compassionate tone. It needs visible sources, honest authorship, clear limits, careful safety judgment, and a way to correct mistakes.

01 · Responsibility

A named person is responsible for the work.

David N Johnson writes and directs Committed Marriage. He makes the final editorial decisions and accepts responsibility for the course, Journal prompts, tools, and public guidance published under the Committed Marriage name.

David and his wife have been married for 27 years. That experience informs his perspective, but it is not presented as clinical training or proof that one marriage can supply the answers for every other marriage.

02 · Development

Research, educational frameworks, and lived experience play different roles.

Committed Marriage begins with recognizable relationship problems and practical questions: What pattern is repeating? What does each person need in order to respond responsibly? What can one person change without controlling the other? When is ordinary communication guidance no longer appropriate?

Answers may draw on peer-reviewed relationship research, established educational frameworks, authoritative public-health and safety guidance, and David’s lived perspective. These forms of knowledge are not treated as interchangeable. Personal experience is labeled as perspective; research-dependent claims should be supported by sources; and safety questions defer to qualified organizations.

The course is educational. It turns concepts into reflection prompts, scripts, practices, and small experiments that a person or couple can evaluate in their own circumstances. It does not promise that a technique will create mutual willingness or a particular outcome.

03 · Source standards

Sources should match the weight of the claim.

When a claim depends on evidence, preference is given to the strongest relevant source that is reasonably available:

  1. Systematic reviews and meta-analyses of peer-reviewed research.
  2. Peer-reviewed primary studies and established scholarly frameworks.
  3. Government, university, and recognized professional or public-health organizations.
  4. Authoritative crisis, abuse, consent, and safety resources for safety-critical guidance.
  5. Reputable expert educational material when primary research would not answer the practical question directly.

Sources are selected for relevance, quality, and fit—not because a title sounds persuasive. A citation means the source informs a particular claim; it does not mean the source’s authors endorse Committed Marriage.

Common-language scripts, reflection questions, and clearly identified editorial judgment do not always require citations. Statistics, effectiveness claims, mental-health claims, descriptions of abuse or coercion, and substantive claims about relationship processes should be sourced when published.

04 · Review process

Self-review is described accurately.

Before publication, David reviews guidance for clarity, relevance, overstatement, source fit, respect for autonomy, practical usefulness, and foreseeable safety concerns. Article citations are checked to confirm that the linked source actually supports the nearby idea.

Unless a page explicitly names a qualified independent reviewer, the work has not been clinically reviewed, medically reviewed, legally reviewed, or independently endorsed. Committed Marriage will not use vague review language that implies credentials or oversight that were not present.

05 · AI assistance

AI may assist the process; it does not hold responsibility.

AI tools may assist with research organization, drafting, editing, code, accessibility checks, and production. David N Johnson makes the final editorial decisions and is responsible for everything published by Committed Marriage.

AI-generated suggestions are not treated as evidence. Factual and research-dependent claims must be checked against the underlying source, and citations must lead to material that readers can inspect for themselves.

06 · Safety

Safety takes priority over preserving a couple exercise.

Guidance should not assume that every conflict is mutual or that better phrasing can resolve coercion, stalking, intimidation, forced contact, threats, violence, or retaliation. In those situations, joint disclosure, confrontation, monitoring agreements, or couples counseling may be unsafe.

Safety-critical pages and articles link to specialized resources. Start with the Committed Marriage Safety resources page if fear or coercion may be present. If there is immediate danger, contact local emergency services.

07 · Updates and corrections

Substantive changes should be visible and dates should mean something.

Article update dates change when the substance, sources, safety guidance, or practical recommendations materially change—not merely because the site was rebuilt or punctuation was corrected.

Confirmed errors are corrected promptly. A correction note will be added when a mistake could materially change a reader’s understanding or decision. Broken links and minor wording errors may be repaired without a formal note.

To report a possible error, reply to any Committed Marriage newsletter, course, or purchase email and include the page title, the statement you believe needs review, and any supporting source. A dedicated public corrections address will be added when that mailbox is operational.

08 · Limits

Committed Marriage is education—not professional care or a verdict.

Committed Marriage does not provide therapy, diagnosis, medical care, legal advice, crisis response, abuse assessment, or an individualized safety plan. It does not determine whether someone should stay, leave, forgive, reconcile, disclose, share access, or participate in joint counseling.

Sources improve the quality and transparency of educational guidance. They do not turn the site into clinical care, and they do not remove the need for qualified professional help when the circumstances call for it.
